Yesterday I attended a service at St Andrew’s Church Melksham and afterwards discussed their plans to build and run an enterprise cafe. Their fantastic project will help the local community – offering Job Clubs and support for local people wanting to get back into work or to find a role that they are happy in.
I have offered to help engage the local business community to become sponsors and hold sessions so that they can tell people exactly what they are looking for from new employees.
Projects like this remind me of why I wanted to be an MP – I truly believe in the value of communities and the importance of their role from charity work to helping people back into work. Government can already be seen as too large and interfering and we need to cut the deficit to grow the economy to help create jobs. This is in addition to the challenges of a growing and ageing population. Local community led projects like this need backing and our full support. Please email me if you want to help St Andrews or want my help to set up a similar venture in the Chippenham constituency.
