This week I invited the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Sajid Javid, to Wiltshire to show him the project that I have been working on to develop Chippenham Cinema as part of my plan to rejuvenate our town centres. I have helped secure a two million pound investment to improve our cinema.
I have been working hard to persuade and work with the owner to redevelop the cinema for years to provide access for all, to increase the towns recreational offerings. I also believe it is vital to ensure that we maintain our historic cinema which is part of the fabric of our town. This is all part of my local plan and I brought Sajid to it to show the great achievement for our town.
We need to develop a more thriving evening economy. The work will start in the next few months and will mean that the cinema will offer five screens plus a bar/ café and is a massive investment of two million into Chippenham. This project will create 20 full and part time job.
Upstairs two screens will be completely refurbished plus the front of the building. This will provide the local community with a modern leisure facility. Having five screens, they will be able to show all the latest films on the release date. They are adding a senior citizen club and also a children club on Saturday, Sunday and in school holidays.
