Refugees and Human Rights debate

Today I took part in a debate to call on the Government to lead international efforts to ensure that human rights are protected and upheld around the world.

I made the point that the UK does have a moral obligation to ensure that freedom is NOT a notion people dream of BUT one they live.

Freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom to practice your religion are are the things that we take for granted. That is why I am not just proud of the work that this government has done but also think it is imperative.

I stressed that the UK is in fact leading the way but that we do need more nations to follow our lead and concentrated on the horrific humanitarian crisis in Burma. Intentional aid dedicated to the crisis is running out and I called on the international community to step up.
