Questioning Nicky Morgan about academies

Last week I questioned Education Secretary Nicky Morgan about the plans to make all schools academies. In our constituency all secondary schools bar Abbeyfields (which is shared with North Wiltshire) are academies plus one third of primary schools. They are all flourishing, however so are our Local Authority schools – in fact we have some of the best schools in the country.

I am pushing for there to be an option so that LAs can act as the Academy chain sponsor for good and outstanding schools. Meaning we will still have one system but not interfere with local schools that are working well. This would give the teachers the freedom to lead the school but the local authority the governance. I have also asked for more time before progressing this policy whilst this option is examined. You can email me with your thoughts michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk
