Today I spoke and supported a bill which will basically mean that people would opt out rather than in to organ donation. Three people a day die in the UK that could be saved if there were the organs available and 80% of people say they would donate their organs but many never get round to organising it.
I stressed that this bill is not the answer but is an essential part of the solution. We also need to invest in our transplant infrastructure, transport, training and support workers. Plus I mentioned the importance of ensuring their is no stigma around opting out and that it is promoted as a choice. Watch my speech in full here to see my other suggestions.
