Whilst I am a big supporter of our climate change π³ ambitions and the fact we were the first country to cement zero carbon emissions by 2050 in law - the proposals put forward by Island Green Power are completely unacceptable in this location.
The proposals currently include a ginormous battery storage site - the size of πππ shipping containers - being dumped on a hill dwarfing Whitley and the surrounding villages with cabling from the panels crossing miles of countryside including Gastard and Notton.
βοΈ This site regularly floods and making it unsuitable and potentially dangerous.
π Villagers believe that the proposed site in Whitley may well be the location of Roman ruins underneath.
π©βπΎ The site is absolutely humongous and would cover three different parliamentary constituencies (under the new boundaries) crossing so much agricultural land.
π¨ The scale of the site means that the installation would cause huge problems for local residents and the local economy with delays and volumes of HGVs etc.
βοΈ We have already been taking our fair share. We π― % need more solar and more solar panels on houses π , buildings π and shops π - however Wiltshire already has π out of the ππ largest solar parks in England, on top of many smaller scale solar parks.
ππ» I attended the information session in Shaw and met with the developers to ask questions and make my views clear
ππ» I am working with Cllr Phil Alford and James Gray and will be organising meetings with Ministers and members of the local campaign team
