Good news - all state-funded schools across England will receive a defibrillator under new government plans, helping to protect pupils, staff and visitors.
The latest research shows that accessing these devices within 3-5 minutes of a cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival by over 40%, so this is something which will make a real difference.
The announcement comes following a campaign by The Oliver King Foundation, a charity created in the name of 12-year-old Oliver King who tragically lost his life following a cardiac arrest.
Following a meeting with Oliver's father Mark King, the government has worked with charities and experts, including the British Heart Foundation to identify the scale of need across English schools, and defibrillators will be delivered to all schools who need one by next year.
