Following a post today on Chippenham News & Notice Board I was alerted to the fact local petrol stations are charging different amounts despite being owned by the same company and less than 8 miles away! Totally unfair Sainsbury's.
I have contacted Greg Hands who is the Minister responsible - there isn’t a rule against this BUT the Competition & Markets Authority are looking at localised anti-competitive behaviour. They have said they would welcome further evidence. Here is the letter back to the CMA from the Secretary of State for Business.
The request for evidence has closed but I will write to the CMA with the details of what is happening locally. I will also write to Sainsbury’s too and make it clear that treating people in this way makes no sense and is unfair. I will also be checking prices around the rest of the constituency to show the entire picture.
