It was a privilege to meet the young engineers at Wiltshire College behind the amazing weather balloon project. This student led project involved selecting materials to use for the payload and parachute, liaising with the civil aviation authority, obtaining sponsorship and some complex mathematical problem solving which resulted in the students balloon reaching heights of over 100,000 feet.
To put that in context most aeroplanes cruise at 30,000 feet!! You can’t fathom it until you see footage from the balloons camera…. From space! The balloon was safely landed and collected on farmland in Abergavenny and returned to Wiltshire College. This is an incredible project the likes of which I’m sure the students will remember for the rest of their lives. Well done!!
