The other Friday, I had the opportunity to catch up with Siena from Penguin Random House
It was great to chat to Siena about the success that we have had in improving literacy rates since 2010 .
Did you know that in 2012, only 58% of 6 year olds were able to read words fluently.
Thanks to our relentless focus on raising skills and literacy, by 2019, that figure had risen to 82%
As a direct result of the decisions that we have taken over the past 14 years, 89% of schools are now rated as good or outstanding and accordingly to the latest PISA results - we were named among the highest performing Western countries.
During my meeting I also had the chance to thank Siena and Penguin Random House for kindly supporting my Short Story competition this year. I am still going through all the amazing entries this year and watch this space as I will be contacting the winners in the next few days.
