I know so many people in our constituency right now are concerned about the increased cost of living and the rise in energy prices.
President Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine and the sudden surge in demand for goods as the global economy has awoken from the pandemic- has resulted in European gas prices increasing by more than 200% last year. This record rise in global energy prices has led to an unavoidable increase in the cost of living in the UK, as we currently use gas both to generate electricity, and to heat the majority of our homes.
This is why the Prime Minister has announced our long-term energy security strategy- which will make energy cleaner, more affordable and end our reliance on importing energy from abroad. Our plan will:
Accelerate wind, nuclear, solar and hydrogen.
Make our electricity 95% low carbon by 2030.
Create well over 40,000 additional green jobs.
Lower energy bills by the end of this decade.
Under our Household Support Fund, we are supplying councils, such as Wiltshire Council, with millions of pounds of funding to support those most in need at this time.
