As part of our electronic vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Strategy, we are massively increasing investment in public charge points.
By 2030, under our plan, we will have 300,000 public EV charge points - equivalent to almost 5 times the number of fuel pumps on our roads today.
Thanks to a historic £1.6 billion of funding from government, charging will become easier and cheaper than refuelling a petrol or diesel car. New legal requirements will be placed on operators which will see drivers of EVs able to pay by contactless, compare charging prices and find nearby charge points via apps.
We are committed to bringing down the price of electric vehicles and we have already invested a further £582 million to continue the plug-in grants until at least 2023. The plug-in grant has already supported the purchase of half a million vehicles and we will continue to do what we can to bring down the price of going green.
I will continue to do all I can to ensure our rural areas, like our constituency, are prioritised for support from this fund.
