It has been awful to see the images and scenes unfolding in Afghanistan as the Taliban have advanced through to Kabul and I stand in solidarity with those facing immense danger in the region.
We now have a duty to support the most vulnerable and provide sanctuary to those Afghans forced to flee their country. This will take place through a new and bespoke Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme which reflects our enduring commitment to the Afghan people and our support for their fundamental human rights.
