This coming week is budget week. Below is what I pitched to the Chancellor:
I put in a plan for funding the NHS. This included a ring fenced specific additional NHS tax and a tax on addiction advertising this would include junk food, alcohol and gambling advertising.
I also pitched for 3 local projects:
1. Investment to transform the Bridge centre roundabout in Chippenham. This investment would bring retail and leisure facilities, a multi storey car park and town centre housing. The multi storey car park would help tackle Chippenham’s severe shortage of parking spaces.
2. Investment to co-fund Bradford on Avon Flood Alleviation. With budget money combined with DEFRA and Environment Agency funds this would help build up flood defences at the BoA town centre bridge (Bull Pitt side) which would protect the town centre including circa 30 homes from flooding, whilst enabling the vital road link over the bridge to remain open.
3. Funding for a purpose built Outdoor Education centre at Wiltshire College’s Lackham Campus, to provide outdoor education to all Wiltshire secondary and primary schools (including special needs provision).
