International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate the achievements that women have made and to encourage and inspire more women.

I am not a feminist. I am an equalist. I am always weary of any form of segregation which can actually enhance discrimination. Equality is best achieved by celebrating everyone and every kind of person i.e. uniting as citizens of the world by celebrating our differences and diversity. It is important to note that we also have an ‘International Men’s Day’ (19th November). In the UK we have made a huge steps towards true equality. We no longer see the achievements of women as special but normal, as we do men. Now is the time to celebrate and recognise these achievements and work towards more.

In other parts of the world women are still treated as second class citizens so there is more work to do. We all have a part to play in helping people to create a more inclusive world.
