Campaign against animal cruelty

I am delighted that our campaign worked! Today the environment secretary Michael Gove has announced an extension in the maximum sentence for animal cruelty from 6 months to 5 years.

Animal cruelty is abhorrent and for a long time I have been pushing for this to be recognised in our legal system, including a number of letters to Ministers and Written Qs. I have been contacted by over 300 local people on the topic and in a few weeks I am visiting the Battersea Dogs and Cats home to discuss this and other related issues.
