Action on Animal Welfare

Hundreds of constituents contacted me, concerned that my vote against transferring EU animal sentience rules into the EU Withdrawal Bill would lead to a reduction in the rights of animals. I was clear that my vote was because the EU rules do not go far enough, had far too many exemptions and we should draft our own law to ensure the UK leads the way in animal rights. I will be delighted to vote in favour of the Animal Welfare Bill when it comes before Parliament and will continue to fight once we leave the EU to bring an end to the inhumane live cross- border transport of animals which our EU membership prevents us from restricting and causes untold suffering.
